‘APC Members Wear Tinubu’s Cap in the Morning, Work Against Him at Night’ — Ndume
Senator raises concerns over alleged internal opposition as ruling party faces questions over unity ahead of 2027 elections
Senator Ali Ndume has raised concerns over alleged disloyalty within the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that some party members publicly profess support for President Bola Tinubu while allegedly working against him behind the scenes.
Ndume made the remark amid growing concerns about possible internal divisions within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Most APC members wear Tinubu’s cap in the morning, but work against him at night,” the senator was quoted as saying.
His comments echo concerns reportedly expressed by Vice-President Kashim Shettima about the possibility of an internal crisis within the APC as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.
Shettima had reportedly indicated that divisions within the ruling party were a greater source of concern to him than the political challenge posed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
The remarks have drawn attention to the question of whether public expressions of loyalty to Tinubu are matched by genuine support for his leadership within the party.
The APC, which controls the Federal Government, faces the task of maintaining cohesion among its leaders, elected officials and other influential stakeholders as political activities intensify ahead of 2027.
Ndume’s allegation also highlights the potential difficulties political parties face when competing interests and disagreements emerge among members, particularly as calculations over future elections begin to shape relationships within the party.
However, his statement represents his assessment of the situation and does not, by itself, establish that the party’s members are working against the President.
With the 2027 elections approaching, attention is likely to remain on how the APC leadership manages internal disagreements and sustains unity among its members.
