FG Announces 30-Day Petrol Discount for Nigerians, Gives Priority to Transporters

The Federal Government has announced a new measure to reduce the cost of petrol for Nigerians, with discounted Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to be sold at NNPC filling stations for the next 30 days.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja.

Oyedele said the discount would be implemented at NNPC retail outlets, with public transport operators given priority under the arrangement.

“There’ll be a discount on NNPC petrol for the next 30 days, with priority for public transporters,” the minister said.

He also disclosed that the Federal Government had reached an arrangement for a negotiated landing cost of petrol, which would be reviewed monthly.

The development comes amid continued concerns over the impact of rising energy and transportation costs on households and businesses across the country.

The Federal Government has recently intensified efforts to reduce transportation costs through cheaper energy alternatives, particularly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), while maintaining that it does not intend to return to the former petrol subsidy regime.

The latest announcement is expected to provide temporary relief to motorists and transport operators as the government seeks measures to cushion the impact of high fuel prices.

Further details on the exact discount and implementation of the 30-day arrangement are expected to be released by the government.
