FISU Presidency: DokTur Awo Declares Bid, Unveils AWO Agenda for Ijesa Students
Awosina Kehinde Johnson, popularly known as DokTur Awo, has formally declared his intention to contest for the presidency of the Federation of Ijesa Students’ Union (FISU), pledging to prioritise advocacy, student welfare and opportunities.
Johnson, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, made his declaration in a statement outlining his leadership experience, vision for the union and proposed agenda for students across Ijesaland.
The presidential aspirant, who hails from Okun Compound, Imesi-Ile, in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, said his ambition was driven by a commitment to strengthening student representation, promoting unity and expanding opportunities for young people.
He described FISU as a platform for advocacy, cultural preservation, leadership development and the collective advancement of students across the six local government areas of Ijesaland.
Johnson said his aspiration was informed by his previous experiences in student leadership, adding that he intended to build on those experiences to deliver a more accessible, accountable and result-oriented administration.
Among the positions he listed in his leadership profile are President of the Obokun Students’ Union from 2025 to 2026, President of the Imesi-Ile National Students’ Union from 2023 to 2025, and National Electoral Secretary of FISU in 2024.
He also served as chairman of the planning committee for FISU National Week 2026 and the NAOSS Leadership Summit 2.0, alongside other roles in student representation and welfare.
According to him, these experiences have strengthened his understanding of student administration, stakeholder engagement, consensus-building and grassroots mobilisation.
“I am not coming to FISU with promises alone; I am coming with experience, a record of service, and a determination to do more,” he stated.
Central to Johnson’s declaration is the AWO Agenda, a proposed framework built around three pillars: Advocacy, Welfare and Opportunity.
Under advocacy, he pledged to strengthen communication between the union, educational institutions, government agencies, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders to advance students’ interests.
On welfare, he proposed greater attention to academic support, scholarship information, educational opportunities and welfare assistance for students across Ijesaland.
The opportunity pillar, he said, would focus on leadership development, entrepreneurship, digital and vocational skills, career advancement, mentorship and professional networking.
Johnson maintained that the initiative was designed to move the union beyond conventional student representation by connecting students with resources and opportunities that could improve their academic and professional prospects.
He also stressed the importance of accessibility, accountability, inclusiveness and measurable results, arguing that effective leadership should be judged by its impact rather than the title attached to an office.
The aspirant called on Ijesa students, former union executives, student leaders and other stakeholders to support his ambition, promising to work towards a more united and responsive federation.
He said his vision was to build a union where students’ concerns receive attention, opportunities are more accessible and cultural heritage remains a source of collective identity.
“Not leadership for the title, but leadership for the task,” he stated, describing the principle as central to his aspiration.
Johnson concluded by formally declaring his intention to contest for the FISU presidency under the campaign identity DokTur Awo, with the motto: “Presiding with Purpose, Progressing with Precision.”
His proposed agenda places student advocacy, welfare support, skills development and stakeholder engagement at the centre of his campaign.
