Group Hails Farmers, Women’s Groups for Endorsing Olajengbesi

The Pelumi Olajengbesi Youths and Students Network (POYSN) has commended the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Oriade Chapter, and the Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progress and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) for endorsing Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Accord Party candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency seat.

The groups announced their endorsement at a joint stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Jesa, citing Olajengbesi’s proposed agenda for agricultural development, food security and the empowerment of farmers, women and young people.

In a statement issued on Sunday, POYSN described the endorsement as significant, noting that agriculture remains a major source of livelihood and economic activity across Obokun and Oriade communities.

The network stressed that the constituency’s agricultural potential could be better harnessed through improved access to farm inputs, affordable credit facilities, modern farming equipment, storage infrastructure and reliable markets for agricultural produce.

According to POYSN, addressing these challenges would improve farmers’ productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, strengthen food security and create additional economic opportunities for rural communities.

The network also welcomed Olajengbesi’s commitment to making agriculture more attractive to young people, noting that increased investment in modern farming and agribusiness could create employment opportunities and encourage greater youth participation in the agricultural sector.

It added that young people should be supported to explore opportunities across the agricultural value chain, including food processing, distribution, storage, technology-driven farming and agricultural entrepreneurship.

POYSN further called on relevant stakeholders to sustain discussions on agricultural development and ensure that proposals targeting farmers, rural women and young people translate into practical interventions across the constituency.

The network maintained that the future of agriculture in Obokun/Oriade would depend partly on empowering farmers, expanding opportunities for young people and creating an enabling environment for agribusiness to thrive.

It reiterated the importance of inclusive agricultural development in improving rural livelihoods, strengthening local economies and promoting sustainable food production.
