Osun East Youths, Students Set for Political Summit on Leadership and Governance
The Osun East Youth and Students Coalition has announced plans to organise a political summit aimed at promoting meaningful youth participation in politics beyond election-day voting and political thuggery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The summit is expected to provide a platform for youths and students across Osun East Senatorial District to engage in discussions on political leadership, civic responsibility, governance, and the role of young people in shaping the future of society.
Under the theme “Youth Participation Beyond Thuggery and Voting,” the proposed symposium seeks to encourage young people to move beyond passive participation in the electoral process and embrace constructive engagement in political decision-making, leadership development, and democratic governance.
In a statement announcing the initiative, the coalition called on youths and students across the senatorial district to prepare for what it described as an opportunity to deepen their political awareness and explore more productive ways of contributing to the development of their communities.
The coalition emphasised the need for young people to recognise their role in governance beyond election periods and become active contributors to political discussions, policy formulation, and democratic development.
According to the announcement, details of the summit, including the date, venue, and programme of activities, will be communicated to the public in due course.
The statement was signed by Comrade Olakolupo Oluwasegun, Coordinator of the Osun East Youth and Students Coalition, and Comrade Alalade Bukola Felix, popularly known as Machiavelli, the coalition’s Secretary.
The initiative comes as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with youth participation remaining a significant issue in discussions about democratic representation and political development.
The coalition urged young people to embrace responsible political engagement, stressing the importance of moving beyond voting and becoming active participants in shaping the political future of their communities.
