Rochas Okorocha Arrested, Released on Bail After One-Hour Police Interrogation

Former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation, but was later released on bail after about an hour of interrogation.

The Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television on Tuesday.

Okorocha was reportedly arrested in Abuja on Monday night. According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was asked to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.

The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour earlier police invitations. He was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date.

The allegations remain under investigation, and Okorocha’s release on bail does not amount to a determination of guilt.
